How long does it take to straighten teeth?

It becomes difficult to chew food when you have misaligned teeth. The misaligned tooth also leads to several other problems like pain in the gum line, improper jaw movement, inappropriate smile, etc. So, straightening teeth at the earliest is a better solution. Here, one needs to take the consultation from a proper Orthodontist for getting the solution.

While going for the teeth straightening treatment, one common question that most of the patients have in mind is they need an answer from Orthodontist about the duration it will take for treatment. However, the treatment duration varies from case-to-case, still, generally, it takes around 12 months to 24 months.

Different options for the Orthodontic treatment:

Orthodontic treatment has been carried out for long decades back and the last few years have seen a drastic development in technology paving the way for various treatment options. Apart from traditional metal braces which are used for many years, now one can get other options like ceramic braces, clear aligners, lingual braces, etc. However, not all options may be available for you if the case is different.

Duration of treatment guidelines:

Going for the Orthodontic treatment would take any of the duration between 12 months to 24 months. The type of braces or aligners you opt for does not necessarily give the exact duration of the treatment process.

The duration of the treatment depends on various factors like:

– For straightening teeth, what duration you need exactly

– The teeth movement over a certain period, generally it calculated on basis of per month

– Are there any issues related to the jaw or simply an underlying bite?

There is an option for six front teeth which is quick braces that is generally aesthetic than for therapeutic treatment. In such cases, the duration of the treatment is just 6 months to 12 months. However, there is no fixing of any problem with these braces. There are chances of getting suffering through underlying problems like bite problems, jaw pain , etc. The treatment duration is different for different individuals in general.

Other factors that affect the treatment duration:

In some cases, there is a need for some surgery or removal of a tooth. In this case, one may need a longer duration as some period is necessary for the healing process and treatment involvement.

Who will be benefited from braces?

Generally, it is believed that only children will be benefited from the braces. However, braces can be beneficial for anyone who needs to straighten the teeth.

– Misaligned teeth causing difficulty in chewing

– Jaw pain

– Straightening teeth for improving the smile

– Misaligned jaw causing sleep apnoea

Expectations from Orthodontic treatment:

Once you are ready for going to the braces treatment then you must be thinking of the process involved and other factors that must be considered. The cost of the braces will depend on the Orthodontist charges and the type of treatment you need. After doing the proper examination, the Orthodontist will provide you with different treatment options along with the duration needed and the associated cost.

After removal of the braces:

After your braces are removed, you have to visit the Orthodontist at regular intervals as suggested. They check the alignment of the teeth when the braces are removed and to protect any of the problems. After removal of the braces, you need to follow the proper instructions given by the Orthodontist. It is totally up to you to take care after the removal of the braces.
